Green Lantern Party!

What do you get when a troop of 6 and 7 year olds descend on your home on a Friday afternoon, with nothing by mayhem in mind? Thanks to @MomSelectAmy, instead of chaos and confusion, the powers of good prevailed! Armed with only an ENTIRE BOX! of Green Lantern toys from Mattel, budding superhero's vanquished the bad guys with super shifter action figures and the very cool Green Lantern Colossal Cannon.

Colossal Cannon:  holds its own in nerf wars
The Colossal Cannon was definitely the hit of the afternoon. It's worn on the arm like a boxing glove, and although just slightly too small to make extensive testing by a responsible adult possible, eh-hem, it got a lot of attention from the boys. A small hopper on the top takes up to 10 small plastic disks. The trigger mechanism seems sturdy, and when pulled, shoots out the discs, which can fly quite straight and level with a Frisbee-like path. Armed thus, enterprising superhero's can rapid fire and secure an entire area with ease. The lights and sounds emitted when shooting, along with the rotation of the "barrels" adds to the excitement. We put the cannon through its paces with target shooting, one-on-one death matches and finally, in the rigors of all out nerf-war. It held up well! The downsides include needing the specialized ammo, although reload times are not too bad. My battlefield testers assure me that the Green Lantern Colossal Cannon would be a hit as a birthday present for 6-8 year olds. My only immediate suggestions to Mattel would be to change the battery system for the lights and sounds to a more common format (instead of hearing-aid batteries), and get ready to market packs of replacement ammo (40 or 50 per kit at least!). These little green discs get under furniture, down in the grass and into all sorts of nooks and crannies.
My troops and I give it an 8/10

  1. That looks like a blast! I want one of those cannons. :D

  2. I've been seeing the green lantern toys all over the place, one the web, in the stores, and on the hands of kids in the neighborhood. I have to admit they look fun. Not to be an old dodger, but I wish we had toys like this when i was growing up.
